About Glenn Furuya

Glenn Furuya, Founder and President, Leadership Works, LLC Leadership Works was created by Glenn Furuya - a global thinker by education, a successful businessman by experience and a humble “island boy” at heart. These are the qualities that make Glenn a one-of-a-kind, world-class leadership educator.

For the past 35 years, Glenn has blended his Eastern heritage, his Western education and his upbringing on a Polynesian island to uncover “The Leadership Code” - practical thought and behavioral patterns that yield peak individual and team performance.

With bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Hawaii in education, Glenn developed a unique ability to create highly charged and memorable learning experiences in an entertaining way. You’ll not fall asleep in any of his workshops!

Glenn started his career as a Special Education teacher, an eight-year experience that he says really taught him to lead. Faced with a classroom of adolescent children, many with severe mental and emotional disabilities, Glenn developed strategies to create an environment that inspired these children to learn. The success of his efforts was recognized when he was selected as one of Hawaii’s “Outstanding Young Educators.”

Glenn’s initial grounding in business took place at KTA Superstores in Hilo, Hawaii. Serving as an assistant to company president Tony Taniguchi, Glenn gained invaluable insights on how to focus and facilitate the transformation of an organization. Today, KTA Superstores, which Glenn describes as his “home base,” is a thriving and growing business for whom Glenn still provides training and consulting services.

In his quest to discover “The Leadership Code,” Glenn has read hundreds of books, learned from global thought-leaders such as W. Edwards Deming and Walt Disney, and gained practical insights on business challenges and successes by working side-by-side for over three decades with winning entrepreneurs and executives from organizations of all sizes and industries.

Glenn was recently featured in a series of leadership vignettes on KHNL’s Monday Morning News.
